Willem Eppen Veerman

Willem Eppen (also known as Willem Eppen Veerman), is my 4th great-grandfather. Willem is the son of Ebbe Jansz and Jannetje Gijsberts Harder. He was baptized on 4 January 1756 in Huizen, and died on 5 May 1819 in Huizen. Willem married Deliaantje Joosten van der Hulst, daughter of Joost Theunisz van der Hulst and Zwaantje Pieters de Braat, on 9 May (banns on 24 April) 1784 in Huizen. Deliaantje was baptized on 26 August 1759 in Huizen. Willem and Deliaantje had three children: Ebbe was baptized on 13 March 1785 in Huizen and buried on 23...

Eldert Houthuijzen and Anna Catharina Lubbeking

A page from the church books of Huizen. The page shows an index of church graves from the first half of the 18th century. I am particularly interested in grave 24, where my 6th great-grandparents Eldert Houthuijzen and Anna Catharina Lubbeking found their final resting place. According to this index, the grave belonged to Eldert Houthuijse. Buried are Anna Lubbekingh, wife of Eldert Houthuijsen, on 7 January 1766, a son of E. Houthuijsen, on 30 April 1767, and Eldert Houthuijsen himself, on 29 December 1772 (the month is omitted, but I know...

Dirk Jansz Hogeveen and Barbara Jens de Leeuw

This is a fragment of the marriage book of the Dutch Reformed Church of ‘s Graveland, from around 1700. Probably hard to decipher if you don’t have experience with older handwriting. The marriage I’m interested in is the first one of the year 1700: 1700 den 7 Februarius Dirk Jansz Hogeveen, Barber Jens de Leeuw. Dirk Jansz Hogeveen and Barbara Jens de Leeuw are my 8th great-grandparents. According to this document, they married on 7 February 1700 in the village ‘s Graveland. Image credits: “Netherlands,...

According to this page, she was confirmed as a member of the Dutch reformed church on 23 April 1733. Dirkje Hogeveen is my 7th great-grandmother. Langgewenscht, Hilversum

Farm buildings at the Langgewenst square in Hilversum (or Langgewenscht, as it was spelled at the time). The photo was taken by my grandfather, Henk van Kampen (1912-1997), in November 1932. This view disappeared a long time ago, the square looks completely different...

The marriage banns registers of Amsterdam are a gold mine for genealogists with Amsterdam roots. This is the registration of Leendert Mourissen and Cornelisje Mangeles, my 8th great-grandparents. It has a few blurry spots, unfortunately, but most of it is still quite readable (at least if you know Dutch and have some experience with 17th century handwriting). Leendert Mourissen, from A[msterdam], 22 years old, sail maker, with his father Mouris Reijers, lives at Boomsloot [street], and Cornelisje Mangenus, from A[msterdam], 20 years old, the...
