Church Sunday: Westerkerk, Enkhuizen

Among the family papers in my possession is an album with postcards of Dutch churches, collected by my grandfather. Most of the cards are from the 1930s. On Sundays, I post cards from this collection in the series Church Sunday. Today: The Westerkerk in Enkhuizen.

We saw the choir screen in the background on an earlier Church Sunday. This time a close-up of the 16th century screen.

One of the panels is dated 1542, but work continued until 1572, when the church became a protestant church. The pane on the right is not finished, possibly because work was still going on when the church was handed over.

The original copper spikes are now lost, the copper was used in a 16th century war.
