Pieter Wieseneker and Lambertje Molenaar

When I find new ancestors, I also try to find out about their children – at least their BMD. In my early genealogy days, I sometimes skipped this, in my haste to go further back in time. I’m revisiting a few of those families now. One of those families is the family of Pieter Wiesenek(k)er and Lambertje Molenaar, my 3rd great-grandparents. I tried to find out as much as possible using online resources (mostly Family Search), and created a to do list for the rest. The to do list has mostly missing death dates, because Family Search...

Birth certificate of Geertje Wiesenekker

Geertje Wiesenekker is my great-grandmother, number 9 in my ahnentafel. Today we look at her birth certificate. A quick summary: On 18 September 1879, the midwife Alida Jacoba van Dijk, age 25, from Huizen, appeared for the registrar of Huizen, to register the birth of a baby girl, who was born in her presence on the 17th at 6.30pm, in house number 135, at the Koedijk street. The mother was Willempje Prins, no occupation, from Huizen, spouse of Gijsbert Wiesenekker, ambulant fish vendor, also from Huizen, who could not do the registration in...

Marriage certificate of Hendrik van Kampen and Geertje Wiesenekker

Last week we had a look at the birth certificate of my great-grandfather, Hendrik van Kampen. Today we look at the wedding certificate of him and his wife Geertje Wiesenekker. Like the birth certificate, I found it on FamilySearch.org. Click to enlarge. A wedding certificate can be a long document, and often contains a lot of interesting information – like the names of the parents, whether they are still alive, and if so, where they live. I won’t transcribe and translate the entire certificate, I’ll just summarize: On 14...

Tombstone Tuesday: Pieter van Kampen and Geertje Relleke

Grave of Pieter van Kampen (1912-1992) and Geertje Relleke (1915-2002). Both Pieter and Geertje are my (distant) relatives: Geertje’s mother Jannetje Wiesenekker is a sister of my great-grandmother Geertje Wiesenekker, while Pieter’s great-grandfather Volkert van Kampen (1809-1856) is my 3rd great grandfather. Pieter van Kampen, born 6 August 1912 in Hilversum, died 26 February 1992 in Hilversum. He was the son of Gerrit van Kampen and Maria Hendrica Lamme, and the grandson of Carel van Kampen and Mijntje de Rooij. Geertje...

The challenge for Randy’s Saturday Night Genealogy Fun is to list 16 great-great-grandparents: List your 16 great-great-grandparents in pedigree chart order. List their birth and death years and places. Figure out the dominant ethnicity or nationality of each of them. Calculate your ancestral ethnicity or nationality by adding them up for the 16 – 6.25% for each (obviously, this is approximate). If you don’t know all 16 of your great-great-grandparents, then do it for the last full generation you have. Write your own blog...
