The historic city center of Luxembourg was built on a cliff. The city center is also known as the Ville Haute (High City). In the valley far below the Ville Haute, on the banks of the Alzette River, is another historic quarter of Luxembourg: The Grund.
The Grund is the most picturesque area of Luxembourg City and therefore popular with tourists. There are several bars, restaurants and cafes down in the valley.
If you don’t fancy the steep climb from the valley back to the ville haute you can also take the lift.

On the foreground part of the bridge over the Alzette River. On the top of the photo, on the cliff, you can see the historic city center of Luxembourg.
