Van Bemmel tombstone, Catholic cemetery, Wijk bij Duurstede
Today’s tombstone is cracked, making some of the dates at the bottom hard to read. But I think the correct translation is: “Here rests our dear husband and father Thomas Joannes van Bemmel born 29 December 1856 died 6 June 1931. And our dearly beloved unforgettable mother Anna Maria Gerarda van Bemmel née van Leeuwen born in Harmelen on 29 August 1863 died 18 February 1933. Rest in peace.”
The names of both spouses are spelled slightly different on the official documents, it seems. I found the following genealogical data:
Thomas Johannes van Bemmel, son of Nicolaas Johannes van Bemmel and Antonia Smorenburg, born in Wijk bij Duurstede, died on 6 June 1931 in Wijk bij Duurstede. He married Anna Maria Grada van Leeuwen, daughter of Gerrit van Leeuwen and Theodora Vermeulen, on 6 May 1887 in Harmelen. She was born in Harmelen and died on 18 February 1933 in Wijk bij Duurstede.
