When I visited the Bosdrift cemetery in Hilversum, this bee (or is it a wasp?) caught my attention. I don’t know the meaning of the symbol, maybe Lambertus Swaan, the first one to be buried here, was bee-keeper.
Buried here are Lambertus Swaan (1880-1918), Threesje Swaan (1914-1935), en Therese Swaan-Lentz (1879-1959). According to Genlias, Lambertus Swaan, son of Jacobus Nicolaas Swaan and Marretje van den Brul, married Marie Gertrud Therese Lentz, daughter of Gerd Harm Lentz and Marie Gertrud Therese Hartgen, on 26 May 1904 in Hilversum. Lambertus was a building contractor at the time, his father estate agent.
I could not find death records on Genlias for Mr. and Mrs. Swaan, but their daughter Threesje was listed: Therese Anna Louise Swaan, daughter of Lambertus Swaan and Marie Gertrud Therese Lentz, died at the age of 20 on 4 April 1925 in Utrecht.
