Bosdrift cemetery, Hilversum

The Nieuwe Algemene Begraafplaats (New General Cemetery) at the Bosdrift (street) in Hilversum, better known as the Bosdrift cemetery, was opened in 1890, and extended in 1912. Many trees that were planted when it opened are still there, now 120 or 100 years old, which creates a special atmosphere. It is not actively used anymore, in general only burials in existing family graves take place here.

Because it is not actively used anymore there are many older graves here: A few from the late 19th century, and many from the first half of the 20th century.

My own paternal grandparents are buried at the Bosdrift cemetery, in the same grave as my great-grandparents.
