Kathrin of Crazy Cozy Murders hosts another classics challenge: Read 3-5 classics between July 1 and November 30 (2007, I assume).
My three choices:
- Crime and punishment
, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
- For whom the bell tolls
, by Ernest Hemingway
- Der Tod in Venedig
, by Thomas Mann
Crime and Punishment is one of my favorite classics. I hope you will enjoy it too. Ernest Hemingway has taken a beating among my fellow readers recently, which is sad because I have enjoyed the books I have read by him, including the one on your list. Enjoy the challenge. I look forward to reading your thoughts on your choices.
Thanks for joining the Southern Reading Challenge and I look forward to your picks.
I’m with LF — Crime & Punishment one of my all-time top books.
I tend to like Hemingway’s short stories better than his novels, but what the hey. Will look forward to your comments on this one.
Haven’t read Thomas Mann!
great choice of books! wow! dostoevsky and hemmingway were fine…just couldn’t complete mann for some reason…can i join the league too? *grin*
Hemingway? What’s not to like!
You really have a passion for reading. Your page reflects your love for the classics.
I have not spent the time to dig into a great book in a while…you have sparked my interest. 🙂
The Speedy Cat
Good luck with Crime & Punishment, I was never able to finish it, but Hemingway is great. Will you be reading Mann in German?
Thanks all for your encouraging comments. If anybody likes to join in, please read Kathrin’s post and leave her a link to your list.
And yes, I will read Mann in German (but I will not read Dostoyevsky in Russian).
