On the Place Guillaume II (William II Square) in the Ville Haute, the historic city center of Luxembourg, is a statue of Roi Grand-Duc Guillaume II (King Grand Duke William II), Grand Duke of Luxembourg and King of my own country, the Netherlands.

William II (1792-1849) became in 1840 the second Grand Duke of Luxembourg (and the second King of the Netherlands), succeeding his father, William I. William II visited Luxembourg in 1844, when he unveiled both the statue and the new city hall on what would become the Place Guillaume II.
